The third annual award, which is presented by Ransomes-Jacobsen, is named for Edwin Budding, who is credited with inventing the reel mower in 1832. It is given annually to one who has made a significant contribution to the golf course equipment industry and who is dedicated to improving the industry and their facilities.

Konrad was to receive the award last week at the Golf Industry Show in San Diego, but was unable to attend.

Konrad is a 1957 graduate of the Austrian College of Trade and Economy in Vienna, where he studied electronics and mechanics. He served 23 years as head mechanic at the Ladies Golf Club of Toronto, and in 1992 was named director of the Golf Equipment Technicians Association of Canada. He held that title until the association merged with the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association in 2004. Konrad writes for the CGSA publication, GreenMaster, and also is a former editor of REEL-GRIND, a magazine for equipment technicians.

A long time Express Dual and Anglemaster advocate, Conrad now dedicates his time teaching students the benefits of equipment maintenance.
